Reflections

The first lecture is about ICT in Science Education, in this lecture we learn about the important of ICT in school to attract the pupils to learn more about science. In other hands, we also discuss critically on issues and trends of implementing ICT applications in teaching and learning. As we know, today many challengers were faced by teacher in school to overcome this situation and to change the mind set of pupils and others teachers how to improve the science learning through ICT.

For the week two, in the lecture is about Smart School In Malaysia. Through this lecture we know about what Smart School is, how the progress so far Smart School in Malaysia, the challengers for teacher and how to overcome that problem.  Furthermore, we also discuss about issues related to Smart School in Malaysia.

Next, we learn about Ethics and Issues in ICT. In this lecture we learn about the values, benefits of ICT towards learning to improve teachers’ method to be used in learning sessions. The lecture through slide about what must to take action and precautions when we used ICT in learning. Lastly, we learns about benefits that we can get through when we understand what is right and what is wrong in ethics and issues in ICT.

The lecturer was explained about the Interactive White Board. We have been introduced to the new device that can be used as advanced teaching method that called "Smart Whiteboard". At first, we were told to install the smartboard software so that we can connect the laptop to the interactive white board. The SMART Board is a large whiteboard that uses touch technology for detecting user input that are equivalent to normal PC input devices, such as mice or keyboards. A projector is used to display a computer's video output onto the whiteboard, which then acts as a huge touchscreen. The SMART Board usually comes with 4 digital writing utensils that use digital ink replacing the traditional whiteboard markers. The digital ink works by using an active digitizer that controls the PC input information for writing capabilities such as drawing or handwriting. There are also buttons that launch a popup keyboard and a right-mouse-click menu for more input options. The interactive whiteboard is usually mounted on a wall or a floor stand and is used in face-to-face or virtual settings in education, business and government.

Next lecture is about E-Portfolio. These lectures are given on how to build up E-PORTFOLIO. Each student in UPSI must have one E-Portfolio. In this E-Portfolio, all assignment is compile together until our last semester. The important menu that must have in our E-Portfolio are about my self which are consist of my resume, my reflection and my teaching philosophy, professional development plan, assignment, lesson plan, gallery, reflection and resources.

For the next lecture, the lecture have give lecture about how to use Window Movie Maker. In this lesson, we can edit our video to become more perfect video and as the assignment we must do the short video and post in blog.

In our next lecture, we have learned about data logger, we have asked to construct one experiment. Every each of group must choose one experiment to create this data logger. The advantages in using data logger are the result are more accurate, save time in doing experiments, more experiments can be done using this data logger, experiment can be done repeatedly, enhanced computer literacy, better understanding of science concepts and opportunities for interdisciplinary projects.

For the last lecture, En. Azmi was explained to us what is simulation and modeling through Stella. Simulation is the exploration of existing models. ICT can uniquely illustrate concepts with the use of high quality multi media simulation enabling students to interact, reflect and develop their knowledge and understanding. Modeling is the expression of one's ideas by constructing one own model. Modeling conjures up many different pictures in science teaching and learning. Modeling using ICT enables students to explore the effects of changing data and relationships of physical systems, thus helping students to understand the phenomena involved. In our learning of simulation and modeling, we have taken one simulation as a assignment and we must do the report and must be submit.

WHAT IS STELLA SOFTWARE

Assalamualaikum and Salam 1 Malaysia

For this session, I would to share about WHAT IS STELLA SOFTWARE..

Education and research are most exciting when they move out of the lecture hall and library and provide opportunity to create, experience, and see. STELLA® offers a practical way to dynamically visualize and communicate how complex systems and ideas really work.

Use STELLA to:
  • Simulate a system over time
  • Jump the gap between theory and the real world
  • Enable students to creatively change systems
  • Teach students to look for relationships – see the Big Picture
  • Clearly communicate system inputs and outputs and demonstrate outcomes

By using this software, we can get the data in short time and precise. To use the STELLA Software, first, we have to create an account before we sign in. Then, we have to download the software for windows. This free software are only able to use within 30 days.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Ethical is set of standards of “rights” or “wrong” or “good” or “bad” in one’s conduct.Ethical issue in Information Techology (IT) were define in general. It was come out from our surrounding.

Ethical in IT is about “rights” and “duties” (Kallman and Grillo,1996). There are three “rights” which are “right to know”,”property right”, and “right to privacy”. The first one is about “right to know”. Right to know is about to know which extent to in using a database to access information. Secondlyis property right. To make sure our computer is being protected, we cannot misuse or abuse our computer. For example, we can protect our computer from viruses. Third is refer to right to privacy. The profesional was entrusted to protect the privacy and confidentiality of all information. Besides that, we are responsible to protect our password from being used by other people. We also are advise do not leave our confidential information on the screen without switch it off. In addition, one of the duties is confidential which is responsible to protect information from unauthorized access.

The purpose of this report is to review the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in support of science education. It attempts to describe current practice and to identify and to clarify some of the issues that face schools and colleges in trying to improve the ways in which they make use of new technologies to enhance teaching and learning in science. It does not claim to comprehensively cover every aspect of ICT in science but aims to contribute to current thinking about this topic by presenting a practical and pragmatic evaluation of some of its key features.

According UNESCO a holistic and comprehensive approach to promoting ICT in education. Access, inclusion and quality are among the main challenges they can address. The Organization’s Intersectoral Platform for ICT in education focuses on these issues through the joint work of three of its sectors: Communication & Information, Education and Science

“We are examining our education system to create a curriculum where people learn how to learn so they can continue their education throughout the rest of their lives. The measure of success in 2020 will be the number and quality of our people who can add value to information.”

Window Movie Maker....

Introduction..

The process of creating a movie or a slide-show consists of importing media such as video, pictures, audio, or music into the program and then manipulating these same elements to create a specific product.  The interface is designed to provide visual access and management of imported elements in the collections pane.  Items from this area can be dragged into either a storyboard or timeline window and then edited.  From the monitor window, changes or additions made to the project can be sampled through playback. Once the desired effect has been achieved the combined project can be saved to the computer, to a CD, or sent to e-mail, to the web, or a DV (digital video) camera.

1996, Malaysia identified Information and Communication Technology (ICT) as one of the key foundation for its projected transition from a production based economy to a knowledge based economy by 2020. The Smart School initiative is one of the flagship applications that are part of Malaysia’s Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) projected.
As a Senior Officer from Ministry of Education, prepare a presentation to a group of science teacher from Indonesia who is interested to know about the Smart School initiatives, focusing on the teaching learning component and the use of technology as enable contained in the Smart School Concept. You also need to provide an overview of the progress made so far and challengers faced since the inception of Smart School in Malaysia

Answers:

In 1996, Malaysia identified information and communication technology (ICT) as one of the key foundations for its projected transition from a production-based economy to a knowledge-based economy by 2020. In declaring these goals, the government also acknowledged that such a transition will require a workforce capable of exploiting ICT to create new economic opportunities. In order to develop this talent pool, the government announced under the Eighth Malaysia Plan the need to re-engineer the country’s education system and align it with its Vision 2020. The Smart School Flagship was one of the seven applications identified under the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) initiative, which envisages the creation of high-value jobs in the country, achieving high and consistent growth driven by exports, improving national productivity and competitiveness and achieving value creation. All these will eventually translate into economic growth, wealth creation and competitiveness for the country.

The history of the Smart School Project is rooted in the two-pronged objectives of the flagship, which are to jumpstart the MSC towards building a knowledge-based economy, contributing to the growth of the ICT industry and creating a pool of talent resulting in high-value job creation. Other than that, Smart School Project to prepare the citizens for the information age through an innovative education delivery process. Smart School is not just about ICT intervention in teaching and learning. The national curriculum and pedagogy are given the highest importance, with the role of teachers, administrators, parents and the community enhanced in the education of the Malaysian students. Individuality, creativity and initiative amongst the students are prioritized. However, ICT is critical in making the teaching and learning processes easier, more fun and effective, as well as making communication and management among the stakeholders more efficient. The Malaysian Smart School is a place where all students can learn within a condusive learning environment. It offers various curricula with on-going evaluation, handled by professional administrators and teachers.

As of October 2009, MOE has awarded ‘Smart School’ rating to 7575 schools. This means they have achieved at least three stars. Dr Norrizan Razali, Senior Manager, Smart School Department, MDeC explains the Star Rankings: “A three-star school has adopted technology. Its teachers ‘plug and play’ content or electronic courseware provided by MOE. It merely adopts IC T with little or no enhancement or customisation of the material to suit its needs. This is good. But we want schools to re-create, collaborate and share materials within themselves and with other schools or the greater community. This is what they need to do to achieve four or five star.” Of the 7575 Smart Schools, 67 per cent are at three-star ranking, 32 per cent at four-star and 1 per cent at five-star.

For challenger the government must continuous monitoring and coaching of innovative use of technology in schools. Other than that, the important thing is always upgrading of infrastructure such as the broadband and hardware for the school always will provided with the latest teaching courseware and Instilling the ownership of the Smart School initiatives among stakeholders. Furthermore, changing the mindset of teachers and stakeholders and alignment of objectives at all levels required, within the Ministry and between Ministries/agencies

ASSIGNMENT 1

ICT applications have become an important part of teaching and learning. The Ministry of Education has invited a huge effort in terms of funding and training to equip teachers and students with ICT skills. In your opinion what are the issues and challengers in integrating ICT in teaching and learning in our Malaysian schools.

ANSWER:
In line with the country’s information and communication technology (ICT) master plan and 2020 vision, Malaysia recognized that the transformation in education system is fundamental to achieve its objectives of learning through our National Education Philosophy. Malaysia has introduced various initiatives to facilitate greater integration of ICT especially in the field of education, as outlined in the country’s ICT Master Plan. This paper provides a brief outline of the ICT policy and ICT initiatives in Malaysia. Further, a case study on a programmer undertaken by the Educational Technology Division, Ministry of Education in helping teachers to integrate ICT in teaching and learning was enumerated. A brief status report of Malaysia’s position vis-à-vis integrating ICT in teaching and learning in conjunction with the UNESCO Case Study Guidelines was also provided.
In my opinion the issues and challengers in integrating ICT in teaching and learning in our Malaysia school is about monitoring and coaching of innovative use of technology in schools. This situation must be always by in continuous to make sure teacher always in right situation to start learning process. Without continuous technical support, technology integration in the classroom will never be satisfactorily achieved. Most teachers have heard horror stories about equipment failure, software complexity, data loss, embarrassments, and frustration. They don't want to be left hanging with 30 students wondering why nothing is working the way it is supposed to be. When teachers are trying to use technology in their classrooms and they encounter difficulties, they need immediate help and support. "Helping technology users while they are actively engaged with technology at their work location is probably the most meaningful, essential and appreciative support that can be provided,"
According Integrating ICT In Teaching And Learning Country Report : Malaysia  by Educational Technology Division, Ministry of Education under the massive programmers, 132,649 laptops, 78,333 LCD projectors, 67,439 screens, 63,254 mobile trolleys, and 9,662 printers were provided in phases to all the schools in the country. In addition 200,000 teachers have been trained ICT in basic ICT skills and using ICT in teaching and learning until 2007. But, this figure cannot have been stated is not enough to ensure that the teaching and learning process run smoothly. By providing High Level Technical Driving Committee at certain area to coordinate and facilitate all ICT initiatives in schools will assure that problem that have been faced by teacher can be minimized.
Furthermore, to handle the problem according ICT equipment, the teacher professional development should have skills in teaching the students using the ICT with particular application. These should be addressed in pre-service teacher training and built on and enhanced in-service. ICT are evolving technologies, and so even the most ICT fluent teachers need to continuously upgrade their skills and keep abreast of the latest developments and best practices. Some student might feel uncomfortable with the new technologies especially student in the rural area where most of the ICT application use the English language for the contents and it is the responsibility of the teacher to guide them to use the computer.

A LIBRARY is a treasure house of knowledge. The life without LIBRARY like life feels empty. This is because a lot of information and general knowledge about whatever we want to know, we can get from the library. A well-stocked LIBRARY is an asset to the school, college, university or the neighborhood. In the LIBRARY, many type of reading materials that we can get such as magazines, journal, news paper, novels, encyclopedia and books regarding we can get the additional knowledge.
Firstly, library is the best way to get the knowledge and information. In the LIBRARY the are so many thing that we can read to gain the knowledge. Depends on the persons want to grab this opportunity or not. This is because, as we know, LIBRARY was situated at everywhere and easy to go. Every state in Malaysia has their own LIBRARY and do so many program based on function LIBRARY and benefit that we can get from that place. Other than that, many institutions and educators, use LIBRARY as the best way and alternative for student to finish their assignment and course evaluation.

THERE'S A FIRE STARTING IN MY HEART
REACHING A FEVER PITCH AND IT'S BRING ME OUT THE DARK
FINALLY I CAN SEE YOU CRYSTAL CLEAR
GO AHEAD AND SELL ME OUT AND I'LL LAY YOUR SHIP BARE

SEE HOW I'LL LEAVE, WITH EVERY PIECE OF YOU
DON'T UNDERESTIMATE THE THINGS THAT I WILL DO
THERE'S A FIRE STARTING IN MY HEART
REACHING A FEVER PITCH AND IT'S BRING ME OUT THE DARK

THE SCARS OF YOUR LOVE REMIND ME OF US
THEY KEEP ME THINKING THAT WE ALMOST HAD IT ALL
THE SCARS OF YOUR LOVE, THEY LEAVE ME BREATHLESS
I CAN'T HELP FEELING

WE COULD HAVE HAD IT ALL
ROLLING IN THE DEEP
YOU HAD MY HEART INSIDE YOUR HAND
AND YOU PLAYED IT TO THE BEAT

BABY, I HAVE NO STORY TO BE TOLD
BUT I'VE HEARD ONE OF YOU AND I'M GONNA MAKE YOUR HEAD BURN
THINK OF ME IN THE DEPTHS OF YOUR DESPAIR
MAKING A HOME DOWN THERE AS MINE SURE WON'T BE SHARED

THE SCARS OF YOUR LOVE REMIND YOU OF US
THEY KEEP ME THINKING THAT WE ALMOST HAD IT ALL
THE SCARS OF YOUR LOVE, THEY LEAVE ME BREATHLESS
I CAN'T HELP FEELING

WE COULD HAVE HAD IT ALL
ROLLING IN THE DEEP
YOU HAD MY HEART INSIDE YOUR HAND
AND YOU PLAYED IT TO THE BEAT
